Funeral Mass for Tonie Chavez, 59, of Grants, New Mexico will be held on Tuesday-August 14, 2007-10:00 AM at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Grants Memorial Park.
A rosary will be receited Monday-August 13, 2007-7:00 PM at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
Tonie was born on June 13, 1948 in Anthony, New Mexico and she passed away on August 8, 2007 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was retired from the Grants-Cibola County Schools after 30 years of Service. She taught in many schools in the District. She was a member of the Delta kappa Gamma sorority and St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband: Vincent Chavez of both Grants, and Acoma, New Mexico; Sisters: Aurelia Holguin of San Miguel, New Mexico, Mary Lou Herrera of Anthony, New Mexico, Frances Gonzales of El Paso, Texas, Teresa Flores of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Cecilia Herrera of El Paso, Texas, and Stella Herrera of La Mesa, New Mexico; Brothers: Alberto Herrera of Anthony, New Mexico.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Presciliano Herrera, Sr. and Rodolfa Contreras Herrera; and a brothers: Augustine Herrera, Presciliano Herrera, Jr. and Sister: Mela Cajen.
Pallbearers will be: Carlos Herrera, Benjamin Herrera, Martin Cajen, Bryson Check, Joge Mendez and Nathan McCoy.
