Celebration of Life for Samuel S. Garcia, Sr. 75, of Grants, New Mexico will be held on Tuesday-April 2, 2013-12:00 PM at Compassion Mortuary.
Samuel was born on August 26, 1937 to Jose and Premia Garcia in Cubero, New Mexico and he passed away peacefully on March 27, 2013 in Grants, New Mexico.
Sam worked for Grants Municipal School District until 1967. He then wetn to work for Kerr McGee as a inor, until a back injury in a mining accident, and then he became a mechanic until 1984, when the mines laid off employees. Sam then worked for the City of Raton, New Mexico for several years, returning back to Grants. Sam then was employed by Allsups Convenience Stores as a stocker for several more years before he retired.
Sam enjoyed penny hunting, you would always see him at all the parks with his metal detector. He enjoyed looking for gold in the Zuni Mountains; never to become rich it was the thrill of the hunt. But what her really enjoyed was spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years who he married on December 26, 1959: Phyllis Garcia of Grants, New Mexico; Sons: Samuel S. Garcia, Jr. of Grants, New Mexico and Raul Garcia of Grants, New Mexico; Daughters: Shirley Garcia of Grants, New Mexico and Ramona Bustos and husband Anthony of Grants, New Mexico; Sisters: Josie Ellis and Domi Rivera, Jeannette Horton and husband Ronnie; Sister in law: Wanda Berg; several nieces and nephews; Grandchildren: Lawrence, Isaac, Anthony, Joseph, Tiffany, Nickolas, Gelano, Ezra, P.J., Jose, Keith, Autumn, Kyle, Aubrey, Anna, Raul, Jr., Paul and Tiffany.
He is preceded in death by his Parents: Jose and Premia Garcia: sisters: Nora, Lita, Deliweena; Brother: Bobby and a set of Twins; Granddaughter: Cathleen Chavez Lamb.
