Memorial service for Robert "Bob" Tanton, 79, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church in Milan. Pastor Dale Thatcher will officiate. Refreshments will be served after the services.
He was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas, on Sept. 2, 1932, and passed away on Oct. 22, 2011, in his home surrounded by his family.
His job as a power lineman brought he and his family to Grants in 1958. He later went to work at Continental Divide Coop for a while. He eventually got into the car business and owned Tanton Auto Sales for 47 years. Bob was a very honest, kind and caring man. He was a loving father and will surely be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughters: Sharon McHenry, Susie Wise and husband Doug; son: Rick of Spring Creek, Nev.; sisters: Valine and Jean of Texas; brothers: Nip and Milus of Texas; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Andrew J. and Ida Pearl; sisters: Velma and Ann; brothers: Troy and Ned; grandchildren Troy Tanton and Matt McHenry.
Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
