Services for Richard Frank Phelps, 73,of Grants, New Mexico and Mesa, Arizona will be held on Tuesday-April 17, 2007-10:00 AM at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Grants, Memorial Park. Father Alberto Avella will be the Celebrant.
A rosary will be recited on Monday-April 16, 2007-7:00 PM at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
Mr. Phelps was born on May 25, 1933 in Wisconsin and passed away on April 11, 2007 in Mesa, Arizona. He was a member of the St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, and local Toastmasters. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps as a 1st Merchant Marine during the Korea Conflict, and then served with the US Air force doing 2 tours in Viet Nam he was a loyal servant to the Government. He had worked as the Yard Manager for Diamond G until moving to Mesa, Arizona.
He is survived by his partner: Antionette Abeyta of Mesa, Arizona; Children: Monique & W. Ken Martinez, Jr. of Grants, New Mexico, Carmen & Tom Gutierrez of Grants, New Mexico, Adoree & Charles Russell of Grants, New Mexico, Dr. Teresa Meehan, PhD. of Grants, New Mexico, Major Shean E. Phelps, M.D. of Sarasota, Florida, Richard & Jessie Phelps of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Daniel & Kelly E. Phelps of Grants, New Mexico and D'lynn Phelps of Columbus, Georgia; Brother: Donald Phelps of Mesa, Arizona; 19 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Edward Frank Phelps and Erika Martha Zimmermann-Hilker Phelps; Brother: Gordon Phelps.
Pallbearers will be: Alejandro Martinez, Walter Martinez III, Zachery Gutierrez, Michael Gutierrez, Stephen Russell, Richard G. Phelps, and Julian Watkins
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jonathon Phelps, Agustin C.T. Martinez, Pablo Meehan, and Coleton Carpenter.
Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
