Prescilla Marquez passed away on December 2, 2020. She was born on April 10, 1942, in Seboyeta, New Mexico to Tomas and Adela (Gabaldon) Torrez. Prescilla spent her early childhood in Seboyeta before her family moved to Grants. She was the second of six children. At an early age, she had to take on many responsibilities. Growing up, she assisted her dad with the livestock and helped her mom with the house chores, which included taking care of her younger sisters. During this time, she faced and overcame adversity and still managed to excel in her education. She earned excellent grades in school and was even double promoted, which allowed her to skip a grade level.
Prescilla married her husband, Onie, on August 13, 1960 as they recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. They were blessed with the birth of their first son Stephen Duane on April 3, 1961. Almost 15 years later, they were blessed with the birth of their second son Michael James, on December 29, 1975. On August 17, 1998, she was blessed with the birth of her granddaughter, Brianna.
In High School, Prescilla got her first job working as a carhop at the Dairy King. She took some time off from work once she got married and the arrival of her first son. She later spent three years working for the CO-OP in Grants in the late '60s. When Onie found work and they relocated to Albuquerque in 1970, she became a homemaker. A year later, they relocated to Colorado Springs, where they resided from 1971 to 2004. She created a loving home for her family to raise her two sons.
During her time in Colorado Springs, she was introduced to the Lord by a dear friend. She accepted the Lord as her savior on March 12, 1982. She was baptized in believer's baptism at Circle Drive Baptist Church. She not only loved to learn about Him throughout her life continuously; she also spread and taught his word to others. On this foundation of faith, Prescilla built her life's framework, guided by the Holy Spirit's blueprint. Over the years, she was active with bible studies and Sunday School.
There were two main things that Prescilla was known for. First, she was always in prayer. She prayed as she breathed. Her heart was always in the attitude of prayer. Second, her kind-hearted soul, who loved everyone without judgment. She was welcoming and always ready to help others at any time. She saw the good in everyone. She will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her infectious smile, and kindness.
Prescilla always enjoyed cooking, putting a puzzle together and playing games on her tablet with friends and loved ones. In her earlier days, she was creative and enjoyed crafts that included crocheting, sewing, and knitting.
On December 12, 2003, Prescilla was saddened by the sudden death of her son, Stephen Duane. She always cherished her early morning conversations with Steve when he would stop by her house before his untimely death.
Prescilla was preceded in death by her father Tomas Torrez, her mother Adela Torrez, her sister Mary Jane Griego and her son Steve Marquez.
