Funeral Services for Paul Herbert Stern 81, of Grants, New Mexico will be held on Saturday-October 13, 2012-9:30 AM at Compassion Mortuary. Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park. Members of the Bahi Faith will officiate.



Paul Herbert Stern was the sixth of six children born to the Reverend Oscar and Mrs. Ella Stern. Paul was born on January 31, 1931 in Wetonka, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his second wife Terri and by his third wife, also named Terri. Paul was preceded in death by all of his siblings, Martha Stern Anderegg, Wilbur Stern, Forrest Stern, Ruth Stern Erion and David Stern. He is survived by step-daughter Teresa Hornberger; by two loving sisters-in-law, Alice Ruth Stern in Dixon, Illinois and Em Stern in Burrton, Kansas. He also is survived by five nieces, Rachel Stern, Karla Stern, Jean Stern Crawford, Carlyn Erion and Kate Erion; by one nephew, Dr. David Stern; and by many devoted world-wide friends of the Baha'i Faith.

Paul graduated with a bachelor's degree from the Church of the Brethren College in McPherson, Kansas, and attended the Church of the Brethren Seminary in Chicago, Illinois. He later completed his Master's Degree in counseling from the University of Arizona in Tucson, and worked as a psychologist and AA counselor at the Western New Mexico Correctional Facility in Grants, New Mexico.

As a pioneer of the Baha'i Faith Paul and his second wife Terri lived in Japan for 19 yrs. In Grants, NM Paul served in various offices of the Baha'i Faith.

Paul was a member for many years of the animal rights group called For the Animals of Cibola County, and served for a time by appointment of the mayor on the Grants Animal Board.

Paul died on October 4, 2012. He was laid to rest in his community of Grants, NM, on Sat., October 14.
