Ona Whitehead

Funeral Services for Ona Victoria Manning Whitehead 90 of Grants, New Mexico will be held on Tuesday-February 17, 2009-11:00 AM at Compassion Mortuary. Burial will follow at the Grants Memorial Park. Pastor Garland Moore will officiate.
Mrs Whitehead was born on February 21, 1918 in Mountainair, New Mexico and she passed away on February 11, 2009 in Grants, New Mexico.
In 1937, Ona accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Milan, In later years, one of her great enjoyments was competing in Senior Olympics in swimming, where she won many medals and honors in swimming on local, state and national levels.
In addition to helping her husband with rental properties in the Grants area, Ona worked for the Grants Municipal schools for fifteen years as librarian.
She is survived by her daughter: Sheron Whitehead Cinta; sisters: Louise Bickham, Fern King; Grandsons: Michael Sims, Richard Cinta, Clyde Whitehead, Jr.; Granddaughters: Laurie Harris and Patricia Whitehead; Great Granddaughter: Brianna Connaughton, numerous nephews and nieces and a host of friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband: Clyde (Hoss) Whitehead; Parents: Vannie and Vick Manning; Brothers: Seth Manning and Everett Manning: Sisters: Effie Nickolson and Shirley Chavez and a son Clyde Victor Whitehead.
