Mazell Copeland

December 4, 1932 — June 14, 2020

A memorial service to celebrate Mazell's life will be held at PCG/Temple of Peace church, at 610 Valencia in Milan, NM, on Friday, June 26, 2020, beginning at 10:00 a.m., and lasting until 12:30 p.m. Because of "social distancing" mandates, only 35 people at a time will be allowed in the building, so each group's time inside the church will last for approximately 30 minutes in order to allow the next group to come in. Masks will be required inside the church. Those who would like to join the family for a brief graveside service may do so as well, at 1:00 p.m.

On December 4, 1932, in the little settlement of Silver Creek, Oklahoma, God smiled on the world in the form of a beautiful olive-skinned, chocolate-eyed baby girl, named Avis Mazell Morris (Copeland), born to Horace and Susie Morris.

On August 17, 1950, God smiled on a wonderful young man by the name of John Raymond Dale Copeland, when He joined him and Mazell in marriage. Dale always lovingly referred to her as Roxy.

On June 14, 2020, at 4:11 a.m., tears filled our world as God smiled on Heaven to welcome His precious daughter, Mazell, to her eternal home.

Mazell Copeland was a gentle, loving, and kind soul with a heart for God and for people. She had a child-like sense of fun, and a quick sense of humor. Her sweet smile seemed to always hide a pleasant secret behind it, and her sparkling eyes exuded joy and warmth. She could have been the poster child for the "WWJD" slogan, daily demonstrating Christlikeness in all of her ways as she provided loving care to her beloved husband and her four children. She provided excellent care to those she served for many years as a Pastor's wife at PCG/Temple of Peace church in Milan, NM; and to all those in her charge in the medical field as a Nurse's Aide, at Cibola General Hospital, Good Samaritan Society - Grants, and in the Home Health field. Previous to her years in the medical field and Pastor's wife, Mazell worked in many other capacities, such as a cook for Bluewater Elementary School; server at a local Grants bakery; secretary for her husband with their business, Copeland's LP Gas; and she also sold Avon and provided child care. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, friend, employee, and Pastor's wife anyone could have ever asked for!

She is preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Susie Morris; her sister, Ozella Meek; and her granddaughter, Kimberly Hope (Copeland) Stout.

She is survived by her beloved husband of almost 70 years, Dale Copeland; four children: son, Steve Copeland, and wife, Kathy; son, Dennis Copeland, and wife, Brenda; daughter, Sheree Melrose; daughter, Anita McCullough, and her husband, Darryl. Eleven grandchildren: Nathan Copeland, and his wife, Selina; Adam Copeland, and his wife, Holly; Anna Frohboese, and her husband, Don; Douglas Copeland, and his wife, Shiloh; Carey Nix, and her husband Kent; Karah Moccio, and her husband, Rob; Roxanne Mirabal; Rex Good II, and his wife, Amanda; David Good II, and his wife, Katy; R. Dale Good, and his wife, Kendra; and Isaac McCullough. She was also survived by 29 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren, with another on the way. Mazell is also survived by her beloved siblings: sister, Bonnie Martin, and husband, Otis; sister, Donnie Sweet; brother, Gale Morris, and wife, Kaye. As well as numerous nieces nephews, cousins, and church family.

Flowers, plants, cards are welcome. However, if you would rather give a donation in her memory, the family would encourage that those donations be sent to PCG-Temple of Peace church (PO Box 2665, Milan NM 87021), and/or Good Samaritan Society-Grants (840 Lobo Canyon Rd., Grants, NM 87020).

Mazell Copeland will be missed beyond words by many people, but especially by her beloved husband, Dale Copeland, and her four children. We will all strive to live out the remainder of our lives by carrying on her legacy of a firm faith in Christ, unconditional love for others, and forever guarding our mouths with the "law of kindness..." In this, we hope to keep her, and God, smiling . . .
