Margaret Gutierrez

A Rosary and Funeral Mass for Margaret N. Gutierrez, 85, of Grants, N.M., will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 500 E. High St., Grants, on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012.



The Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Mass.



Margaret was born Jan. 10, 1927, in El Cerro, N.M., to Francisco Orona and Amada Trujillo. She was the second of four children.



Margaret passed away on Sunday Nov. 25, 2012.



She was married to Dr. Gilbert Gutierrez for 65 years and was the mother of 12 children.



Margaret was very active in the community, including teaching Spanish and dance instruction at St. Theresa School, providing leadership for the Cibola General Hospital Auxiliary, Cibola County ARC, and the N.M. Cattle Growers Association.



One of Margaret's proudest accomplishments was Casa San Jose. She was relentless in her work for community service. After retiring to the ranch with her husband in 2000, she continued her faith-based outreach and education in the neighboring communities, which included organizing and facilitating adult religious education classes.



Margaret was first and foremost a mother who loved her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren and supported them through their religious, educational, and professional endeavors.



Margaret loved to be outside whether it was at the ranch, playing golf or doing crafts with her friends and family.



She is survived by Karl and Sandy Gutierrez, Frances and Ron Jernigan, Gene Gutierrez, Carmen Gutierrez, Tim and Cathy Gutierrez, Richard and Janie Gutierrez, Paul and Terri Gutierrez, Maria and Gary Atencio, Patrick Gutierrez, Toni and Rod Jensen, Chris and Pam Gutierrez, Maggie and Wade Woodbury; her brother: Nino Trujillo; 34 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.



Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Gutierrez, and her son, Tom Gutierrez.
