Funeral Services for Mabon Edward "Ed" Barnes 68, of Grants, NM will be held on Monday August 22, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Compassion Mortuary in Grants, NM. Reverend Frank Williams will officiate. Burial will follow at the El Morro Cemetery.



Ed was born on July 8, 1943 in Grants, NM and went home to be with the Lord on August 19, 2011.



worked for 15 years in the mining industry. He was with the Cibola County Sheriff's department for over 11 years beginning as a reserve deputy for 2 years before becoming a full time deputy in 1982. As a Deputy, he helped implement the D.A.R.E. program within the department. He also served the Cibola County Sheriff's department as an Instructor and Trainer for the Sheriff's Reserves, new deputies, continuing education for the department.

Ed was a member of the Grants-Milan Elk's Lodge for 41 years.



He married Gale Bertha Boyd, who survives of the home, on December 28, 1962. Also surviving are his Children: David Earl Barnes and wife Lindsay of Murrayville, IL; Kathy Ann Barnes Lovette and husband Steven Todd of Wallburg, NC; Rhonda Gale Barnes of Grants, NM and Laura Day Barnes of Grants, NM; Grandchildren: Jenifer Gaumer, Kelsea Allender and Brisco Esquivel; Kathryn, Triston and Shiloh Lovette; James and Micheal Mayers and Jerry Tyrkala, Jr.; Alyssa and Megan Acevedo; Great Granddaughter Kyla Allender; and siblings: Caryl Brazell, Trudy Yates, Raymond Barnes and Becky Sanchez.



Ed He is preceded in death by his parents: Mabon Earl Barnes and Laura Mae Worthen Barnes; his brother: David Rusell Barnes; and infant son "Baby" Barnes.



Pallbearers will be: James Mayers, Micheal Mayers, Triston Lovette, Michael Allender, Larry Worthen and Robert Polk.



Honorary Pallbearers will be: Teddy Yates, Todd Worthen, Pete Pinksten, Victor Kroen, Don Turner and all of his remaining grandchildren.
