Libby Mirabal was born on February 5, 1932 in Cubero, New Mexico, Libby passed away on November 1, 2023, viewing will be at 6:00 pm on November 20 followed by the rosary at 7 pm at St Teresa of Avila church, Funeral will be held at 10:00 am on November 21 at St Teresa of Avila church, she passed away peacefully at home, she will be greatly missed and loved by her family and friends. Libby grew upon a ranch where she spent most of her time on cattle round-ups and branding, she loved horseback riding and as an all-around cowgirl. She attended Grants High School and graduated on May 1949, after graduation she attended nursing program in Gallup, New Mexico but had to leave back home because an illness in the family and help take care of the ranch. She met the love of her life Felix Mirabal who was in the military at the time and just got back from the Korean War. They got married on October 29 1951.
They owned several businesses in Grants mainly the Felix Texaco gas station. She stayed working at the business where she learned the bookkeeping and accounting for the business. She was also a bus driver going from Grants to San Fidel to drop off kids and pick them up at St. Joseph Catholic School since there wasn't a catholic school in Grants. She was an amazing person with a big heart and would help anyone in need. She always gave advise to anyone down on their luck and always gave money to the poor. She was a faithful catholic and attended St Teresa catholic church. She loved cooking for the family making her tamales and biscochitos. She loved cooking for the holidays especially for Thanksgiving Dinner.
Later in life she came down with Breast and thyroid cancer. She was treated with chemo and radiation treatments and became cancer free until her death, she will be greatly missed She is preceded in death by her loving husband Felix Mirabal, her parents Joe & Mary Sanchez, brothers, Herman, Eddie, Elijio and Ambrosio Sanchez, sisters Percilla Sanchez, Sarah Gallegos, Lilly Chavez and Rebecca Baca, great granddaughters Destiney and Mariah Miera.
She is survived by her children: Marty Mirabal (Charles), Matty Mirabal, Phillip Mirabal wife Dolores, Frances Miera, Danny and wife Irene Mirabal and Anna Maria Chavez; grandchildren: Phillip j Jr, Melvin, Kristy, Jessie (Alyssa) Nicole Miera, Chris (Frances) Devlin, Kelly (Chris) Kutach, Jacqueline Mirabal, Jennifer, Dominic (Reyna) Mirabal, Danielle (Zaid), Jeanne and Julian (Chantylle) Martinez; great-grandchildren: Ivy and Heaven Mirabal, Gene(Devyn), Bobby, Alyssa, Arianna, Felix, Francine, Kimberly (Gavin) Russell, Nicholas (Serenity), Aaliyah Rose, Dominic, John (Xiola), Janessa (Emilio), Jade, Karissa (Manuel), Cardenio, Isabel, Dominic Jr, Hannah, Calob, Alexia, Marcos, Olivia, Sophia, Mathilda; Great great-grandchildren; Jacob, Ella Rose, Kodie. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers: Phil Jr, Melvin, Chris, Julian, Jessie, Dominic. Honorary Pallbearers: all Great-Grandchildren.
Reception will be held at the Knights of Columbus in Grants after the services. In leu of flowers, you may make your donations in honor of Libby Mirabal At Living Beyond Breast Cancer.
