A Memorial Service for John Batista Orecchia, 88, of Albuquerque, N.M., will be held at Compassion Mortuary, 120 N. Third St., Grants, N.M., on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, Calif.
John was born on May 11, 1926, in San Mateo, Calif., and passed away on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, in Albuquerque.
He was a true Renaissance man, an accomplished violinist, boxer, football player, and a piano player as well as a gourmet baker. John was also a concert violinist in the San Francisco World Fair in 1939.
His work ethic never wavered.
John honorably served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater from 1944-46.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Linda Louise Orecchia.
John is survived by his children: Paul M. Orecchia, of Rapid City, S.D.; Joyce A. Orecchia, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; Rick G. Orecchia, of Belmont, Calif.; JB G. Orecchia, of Pleasanton, Calif.; Rick P. Orecchia, of Grants; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren as well as many other family members and friends who loved John and will miss him.
