Gilbert Salazar, a cherished member of our community, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, in San Mateo, NM, at the age of 80. His life was a tapestry woven with love, family, and friendship, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to touch the hearts of many.
Gilbert is deeply mourned by his loving daughter, Michelle Reyes. He found immense joy in his role as a grandfather, leaving behind grandchildren who adored him: Olivia Lopez, Cesar Lopez, and Demitri Reyes. His heart swelled with pride for his great-grandchildren, Cecilia Solis and Kane Mulvaney, who brought light and laughter into his life along with his niece Amanda Martinez.
He is reunited in peace with his beloved parents, Abelino and Lucinda Salazar, who have embraced him once more. Their love guided Gilbert, and their memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A service honoring Gilbert’s life will be held on December 28, 2024, at 10 AM at Immanuel Baptist Church, where family and friends are invited to celebrate the spirit of a remarkable man. Benito Lucero will serve as pallbearer, reflecting the deep respect and admiration so many held for Gilbert.
Following the service, he will be laid to rest at San Mateo Cemetery in San Mateo, New Mexico, a place where his memory will endure among the whispers of the wind and the warmth of the sun.
In celebrating Gilbert’s life, we remember his kindness, wisdom, and the love he shared so generously. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
