Gilbert "Gil" Lloyd Lucero Jr. passed away peacefully on September 24, 2022, at age 72 in his home. He was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest and telling bad jokes. His battle with pancreatic cancer showed his courage in facing life's challenges with humor and a smile. Despite the pain, Gil was a hero and stayed strong until the end.
Gil was born to Gilbert "Lonestar" Lucero and Ruth Leichtle Lucero on June 11, 1950 in Petaca, NM. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Ruthie Lucero, Charlotte Ruth Lucero, Joann Griego Gurule, and Tony Lucero. He is survived by his sister Betty Lou Wolfe, three daughters, Jolene, Monica, Ashley, and his granddaughter Charlotte.
Gil loved spending time outdoors working on cars and was an avid hunter and fisherman, a passion he shared with those he loved. One of his favorite things on Wednesdays was reading the obituaries and horoscopes in the Cibola Citizen. Everyone who came into his life left with two things: a funny story and a nickname.
