George Garcia, of Grants, New Mexico entered eternal rest on Monday, March 7, 2023, at the age of 83. George was born on June 4, 1939, in San Rafael, New Mexico to Inez and Lucy Garcia.
George grew up and spent his childhood in San Rafael, NM. George’s father died when he was 10 years old, and George had to grow up fast. He worked hard on the farm to help his mother as best as he could at a young age. George enlisted in the Marines when he was 17 years old and spent 4 years in Reno, NV and California during his duty. George then moved back to Grants, NM after serving his time in the Marines and he became a Grants Police Officer and this is where he met his wife.
George married Patricia (Swaim) Garcia on March 31, 1961, and they were married for 54 years. They had four children: three sons and one daughter. Before settling in Grants, George and Patricia lived in Northern and Southern New Mexico as well as California. George was a successful welder, owning his own business and worked in the coal mines. He retired in 2002 after working for 20 years at Lee Ranch Coal Mine and settled into retirement with Patricia with ease. George loved to spend time with his family, grandchildren, and going to the casino.
George is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Garcia; son-in-law, Michael Diaz; mother, Lucy Garcia; and father, Inez Garcia. George is survived by sons; George (wife Deanna) Garcia of Inez, Texas; Michael Garcia of Phoenix, Arizona, and Stephen (wife Melissa) Garcia of Grants, NM; daughters Shari Garcia and Marissa Diaz of Albuquerque, NM; Grandchildren; Patrick Garcia, Christopher Garcia, Samantha Leake, Brandon Garcia, Nikki Garcia, and Scott Pritchard; many great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends.
