GALLUP -- Services for Frank Carlston, 63, will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 5, at the Joshua Generation for Jesus, 1375 Elva Drive in Gallup. Rev. Ruth L. Droll will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Gallup.
Carlston died November 29 in Crownpoint, New Mexico. He was born April 28, 1942, in Crownpoint into the Mexican Clan for the Meodow People Clan.
Carlston was a dishwasher and busboy at Golden Lion Cafeteria owned by George Taira in the early 1960's. He proudly served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Stuttgart and Baumholder, Germany, and Fort Monmouth, NJ. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he was employed by Paramount Restaurant as an assistant manager, and with the Gallup Indian Medical Center as a food service worker. Most of his life, he was self-employed by selling hot tamales and burritoes which earned him the title "The Tamale Man." He completed Crownpoint Institute of Technology, majoring in Accounting, and attended Devry Institute in Phoenix, AZ. He was an avid Gallup High School football and basketball fan.
Carlston enjoyed traveling around the world, cooking, and making people laugh. He was a member of the Prewitt Assembly of God church where he and his late wife, Margaret Carlston, were part of the Noah's Ark Bible Bus Ministry. They ministered in the communities of Casamero Lake, Borrego Pass, and Little Water. He was known as "The Bible Man" to the children.
Survivors include his three daughters, Myra Van Alstine of Brooklyn, New York, Tamara Tsosie of Casmero Lake, and Tiera James of Fairbanks, Alaska; father, Leo Carlston Sr. of Jones Ranch; six brothers, Peter Carlston of Kirtland, Leonard Carlston of Phoenix, Arizona, Tommy Carlston and Ron Carlston of Albuquerque, Randy Carlston of Farmington, Forbes Carlston of Jones Ranch; four sisters, Dolly Silverfox of Mentmore, Victoria Jymm and Sharon Leslie of Gallup, Shannie Carlston of Jones Ranch; and one grandchild.
Carlston was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Sloan Carlston; mother Lucy Arviso Carlston; brother, Leo Carlston Jr.; grandparents, Leo Damon, Betty and Bah Mary Arviso.
Pallbearers will be Leonard Carlston, Tommy Carlston, Ronnie Carlston, Randy Carlston, Donald Carlston, and Ober John.
The family will receive friends and relatives after the burial services at Joshua Generation for Jesus.
