It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father Filiberto Martinez, age 81.
Our heavenly father called him to rest on October 16, 2024 after battling a lengthy illness. Filiberto was known for his caring, loving, peaceful, and friendly demeanor. He loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren who brought him an immense amount of happiness. He enjoyed the holidays and barbeques that brought his family all together. He also enjoyed late-night black and white movies, local news. MSNBC and the Wheel of Fortune.
Filiberto enjoyed spending time with his wife where they reminisced about the past, talked about their children, grandchildren and their ailments, and he would always make loving gestures to say good morning to his wife.
Filiberto worked as a uranium miner for Homestake for 25 years, as a gold miner for nine years, and had several other mining careers. He also worked for the railroad, Garcia’s janitorial, and Cibola County Schools before retiring to stay home with his wife.
Filiberto Martinez is preceded in death by his mother: Lizita Garcia; father Jubencio Martinez; brothers Casemerio Encinas, Eduardo Encinas, Gabriel Martinez; children: Mary Margaret and baby boy Martinez, grandson Patrick Martinez, and great- granddaughter Angelita Waters.
Filiberto Martinez is survived by his spouse: Mary Martinez; children: Filiberto Jr (Liz), Peter (Denice), Paul, Melvin (Tammy), Connie (Nick); and two grandchildren that he helped raise and claimed as his own children: Nicole Wheeler (Aaron) and Bernabe Jaramillo (Amy); he had 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren.
Filiberto will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and those who knew him. Filiberto leaves behind a legacy of knowledge, kindness, love, inspiration and will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
Services for Filiberto will be held at
St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church
on October 28, 2024.
Viewing will be at 10:00 am,
Rosary at 10:30 am
Mass will be held at 11:00 am.
Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park.
Reception will follow at the Cow Palace.
