Clyde was born Nov. 8, 1925, to Frank and Clara Cerniway in Durango, Colo. He was the youngest son.
He passed away peacefully on May 18, 2012, at his home in Grants after a long illness.
Clyde spent his childhood in Ignacio and Silverton, Colo. As a child he was always busy. As a teenager, he began working in the San Juan Mountains for Western Colorado Power Company as a meter reader.
Clyde proudly served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a non-commissioned U.S. Army officer.
He later became an electrician. His career was made in the mining industry. Clyde was part of the "Big Job" in San Mateo, N.M.
Clyde loved his family and the outdoors. Mountain climbing, fishing, hunting, gardening, "rock hounding" and the companionship of a beloved dog were the passions of his life. He loved to work with his hands, and the engineering of a clever solution to everyday problems served him for his lifetime at home and at work.
His fascination with machinery and processes gave life to his work. After retiring, he found his true calling as a master handyman. If it was broken, Clyde could fix it.
He was a tireless volunteer with the Grants Beautification Committee, and he was recognized by New Mexico's "MainStreet" Project for his work.
As a member of the Presbyterian Church, he worked with an outreach mission and the Prewitt Assembly of God Church, known as the Noah's Ark Bus project.
