Bobby Bowlin

Services for Bobby Ray Bowlin of Grants were held at 10:00 Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church with burial at the Grants Cemetery.



He died Sunday surrounded by loving family and friends after a long illness. Bob was born in Ft. Sumner, NM to Carl C. Bowlin and Annie Riddle Bowlin.



He was preceded in death by his parents step-mother Mary Lou Bowlin and son Jimmy Ray Bowlin.



He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara of the family home in Grants, daughter Beverly and husband Jack Allen of Albuquerque, Bonnie Bowlin of Albuquerque and son Bruce Bowlin of Alamogordo, sister Nancy, husband Dennis Hinton of Llano, Tx., brother Jack Bowlin and wife Margaret of Albuquerque and many nieces and nephews.



Bob first came to the Grants area when he was 8 years old and later lived in Gallup, Farmington and the Quemado area having graduated from high school in Springerville, AZ. Bob joined the Navy after high school and took part in World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded several service medals and citations. He was a strong advocate of all veteran's rights and privileges. Bob worked in the uranium mining industry for over 30 years. He was a member of the Grants Volunteer Fire Dept. for 18 years and a life member of the Tri-State Firemen's Association as well as a charter and life- long member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #2053 and the Grants Veterans of Foreign Wars where he served both organizations in many capacities and as an officer. A member of The First Presbyterian Church of Grants he served as a church official for many years. An avid hunter and fisherman, he loved to hunt with his buddies in the mountains around Grants and in Catron County. Bob, wife Barbara and children spent many years camping in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. Bob restored antique furniture and spent many years making wooden crafts including his signature crosses with turquoise stones.



In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Grants or the Grants Animal Shelter in the name of his little dog Cory.



The Rev. Larry Haslam officiated at the funeral service and graveside services were conducted by members of the Grants Elks Lodge.
