Services for Betty Lurlene Lewis 83, of Ramah, New Mexico will be held on Friday-January 25, 2013-11:00 AM at the Ramah LDS Church. Burial will follow on Private Family Cemetery.
Betty Lurlene Lewis passed away on January 17, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in Grants following a lengthy period of failing health. Lurlene was born on October 20, 1929 in St. Johns, Arizona to Eugene Albert Waite and Ruth Genevieve Rothlisberger. She attended school and graduated from St. Johns High School in 1947. Lurlene married Garland P. Lewis on May 8, 1948 in St. Johns. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa Arizona Temple on June 6, 1949. Lurlene and Garland made their home in Ramah except for a few years in other locations in Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. Lurlene was a cook for several schools in the area prior to her retirement.
Lurlene was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various positions in the church.
She is survived by daughters: Elleva McMahon, Cindy Montaque, and son Larry Lewis; Brothers: Jacob and Billy; Sisters: Susie, Altheda, Violet, Genetta and 28 Grandchildren, 43 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.
Lurlene is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years: Garland P. Lewis; Parents, Sons: Garland G. Lewis and Vernon Lynn Lewis; Three Sisters: Belva Bond, Nedra Finch and Gloria Mangum; and brother Jerry Waite.
