Betty Sue Matthews Essig, age 86, passed away the morning of October 9th, 2023 in Gallup, NM. Betty was born March 31, 1937 to Commodore Franklin Matthews and Fannie Andrews Matthews in Magnum, OK, where she attended Magnum High School.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Calvin Matthews and Everett Matthews. She is survived by her three sons Keith (Elizabeth), William, and Michael Essig (Patricia & son); her grandchildren Kathryn Essig McCarty (Ryan) and Bradley Essig (Sarah); and three great-grandchildren.
Betty worked as a unit secretary at Baylor in Garland, TX for 20 years before retiring. She loved her cats and enjoyed sewing and reading mystery novels. Betty would do anything for her family and always known for being a sweet and caring person. Our family is grateful to know that Betty is finally at peace, though will be deeply missed.
