Funeral Mass for Antonio "Tony" Pena, 99, of Grants, New Mexico will be held on Saturday-August 9, 2008-10:00 AM at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Grants Memorial Park. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will be the celebrant.
A Rosary will be held on Friday-August 8, 2008-7:00 PM at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
Mr. Pena was born on April 22, 1909 in San Mateo, New Mexico and passed away on August 1, 2008 in Grants, New Mexico.
Antonio was a Life long resident of the area. He was a Rancher and Farmer, served as a Municipal Judge for 10 years and Justice of the Peace. Member of the Republican Party. He enjoyed traveling and was a champion pool player. Member of the St. Teresa Catholic Church. He was one of the first employees of Anaconda Mines and worked in the Mill for 32 years.
He is survived by his children: Gilbert Pena and wife Joy Kelly of Raymore, Missouri, Johnny Pena and wife Ramona of Houston, Texas, Mela P. Gonzales of San Antonio, Texas and Step Daughter: Georgia Parra and husband Al of Grants, New Mexico; Brother: Lalo Salazar of Mesa, Arizona; 16 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife: Leo Pena and 2nd wife: Florela Pena; Parents: Abelico Pena and Manuelita Ortega Pena; Brothers: Pablo Pena and Abelicio Pena; Sisters: Eufemia Pena and Letecia Salazar.
Pallbearers will be:Chuck Gonzales, Bert Pena, Aaron Pena, Gordon Pena, Byran Shipman, and Jeff Roberts.
Honorary Pallbearers: Esther Morales, Annie Trujillo, Dorothy McBride, Rafaelita Baca, Angela Sanchez, Joe Sanchez, Eafemia Trujillo, Ray Jackson, Gus Galvez, Joe Otero, Arsenio Salazar, Eddie Trujillo, Bea Trujillo, Frank Otero, and Abe Pena.
