She was born on July 3, 1939, in the peaceful surroundings of West Graham, Virginia. From her earliest days, Alma embodied a bright light—a beacon of kindness, compassion, and tenacity that would guide her family and friends through countless moments of joy and sorrow.
Alma's life was characterized by profound love for her family and unwavering dedication to nurturing those around her. A devoted sister to Elizabeth Rose, she created a bond of strength and support that will forever echo in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her. As a loving mother, she instilled values of resilience and generosity in her daughters—Barbara McCray, Brenda & John Carwile, Petrita Howe, Ramona Galariz, and Antoinette & Julian Romero—and her sons—Jeffery & Rosemary Rose, James & Kathleen Howe, Lawrence & Cindy Howe, and John & Susan Carter. Alma's legacy lives on through her numerous grandchildren, including Melissa & Luis Ibarra, Axl & Stacey Rose, Samatha & Carlos Martinez, Justin Carwile, Jesse Carwile, and Mandy & Eric Carter, along with an extended family of 24 cherished grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Alma was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Howe, who stood at her side throughout their journey together. She also mourned the loss of her children Salley Lovato and Steve Howe, as well as two great-great-grandchildren, each a thread in the rich tapestry of her life.
